    Operation Blackout

    Execute: 04/12/2026

    Task Organization: 10RR

    Subsets: NEPTUNE, TF APOLLO

    1. Situation
      1. Area of Interest - AO Coal
        1. Terrain Zimnitrita, Latvia
          1. Obstacles & Fields of Fire. Dense woodland, marshy lowlands, and uneven terrain restrict visibility to short–medium ranges. Open sightlines are limited to clearings and infrastructure and are often exposed. Elevation offers only localized overwatch.
          2. Avenues of Approach. Movement is constrained by limited roads, wetlands, and forest belts. Vehicles are canalized onto predictable routes vulnerable to ambush. Infantry can move off-road but slowly. Frozen waterways may serve as seasonal routes with risk. Bridges, narrow tracks, and village access points are key chokepoints.
          3. Key Terrain. Critical areas include settlements, road junctions, bridges, and elevated clearings. Control of crossings is decisive. Overwatch positions are limited and localized, making engagements close-range and fragmented.
          4. Cover and Concealment. Concealment is abundant due to vegetation, enabling ambush. True cover is limited outside buildings and prepared positions. Forests mask movement but offer little protection; urban areas provide the most reliable cover. Vehicles must use terrain masking and avoid exposure.
        2. Weather. Heavy rain
        3. Time and Light Conditions. TBD

    1. Enemy Forces.
      1. Size. Zimnitrita forces are structured as a conventional but under-resourced military, organized into light infantry formations with limited mechanized support. Units are concentrated around settlements, key infrastructure, and primary road networks, with repositioning largely tied to these routes and limited off-road flexibility.
      2. Capabilities. Infantry is equipped with legacy Soviet-era systems, including AK-pattern rifles, PKM machine guns, and older body armor. Fire support is primarily dismounted or vehicle-mounted machine guns, with some RPG availability. Mobility relies on unarmored troop transports and technicals, supplemented by a small number of BRDMs. Limited stocks of more modern Russian equipment, such as GAZ Tigr vehicles and a small number of Soviet-era tanks, provide localized increases in protection and firepower. Intel suggests a possibility of stockpiled ZSU-23-4 Shilka systems, which, while originally designed for air defense, can be employed in a ground support role against infantry and light vehicles. Air support is mostly absent, with the military suspected to only stock a small number of Mi-8s, and integrated air defense is minimal outside of such legacy systems.
      3. Recent Activity. Zimnitrita forces have focused on consolidating control over key terrain, establishing defensive positions around settlements, road junctions, and crossings. Patrols along major routes are routine, with increased use of checkpoints and fortified positions to secure lines of communication.
      4. Expected Course of Action. Zimnitrita forces are likely to maintain a defensive posture centered on chokepoints and key terrain. Limited armored assets may support localized counterattacks, but forces will avoid overextension. Expect use of ambushes, defensive strongpoints, and controlled withdrawals to delay advances while preserving combat power and control of critical infrastructure.
    2. Friendly Forces
      1. Higher Units. N/A
      2. Adjacent Units. N/A
      3. Supporting Units. N/A
    3. Civilian Considerations. Civilian presence is not likely in the area. All civilians in military areas are assumed to be hostile and should be detained.
    4. Attachments/Detachments.  N/A
    5.  Mission.

The 10th Ranger Regiment has been tasked with seizing a high-security military stronghold to obtain actionable intelligence regarding the locations of detained political prisoners. Multiple points of interest have been identified for the Regiment.

POI001: A critical power distribution site supplying electricity to the island fortress and adjacent military infrastructure. Destruction of this facility will degrade defensive systems, disrupt communications, and reduce operational effectiveness within the stronghold.

POI002: A heavily fortified installation serving as the central stronghold. The objective is encircled by a waist-deep moat and protected by a mine-wire obstacle system. Reconnaissance elements identified barbed wire fencing along the outer perimeter of the moat, with anti-personnel mines emplaced on the inner bank. The site is assessed as the primary repository for intelligence related to political prisoners and may contain detention facilities or command elements.

POI003: A security checkpoint positioned along a primary access route to the stronghold. Defended by light forces equipped with machine guns and limited anti-vehicle capabilities. Intended to delay or disrupt vehicular assault elements.

POI004: A secondary defensive position covering an alternate avenue of approach. Similar in composition to POI003, with minimal anti-tank assets and crew-served weapons oriented toward road interdiction.

The 10th Ranger Regiment will neutralize the power plant, followed by a decisive assault on the island fortress. Priority tasks include the destruction of the electrical grid, suppression of outpost defenses, breach of the fortress perimeter, and rapid exploitation of intelligence to identify and locate political prisoners.
